My First Interview! At the Galactic Starlight Hotel?

It’s not exactly the start I wanted, but at least it’s something in the positive direction.

Today I received a Holo-call from the Galactic Starlight Hotel stating that they wanted to interview me for an entry level position in their back-office area. Apparently, the protocol droids who run the front desk are using a slightly outdated firmware and are confusing some of the recent bookings for customers reserving using the Holo-lens Zygraphic System.

The HZS as it is called is using an updated protocol that the protocol droids are unaware of, so their AI is translating it (but not well).

The interview is in a couple of days. I will be giving a Holo-call formal interview to start, and perhaps an in-person meeting. The hotel is only a few blocks away, so that would be perfect.

Whomever I spoke to on the phone was kind enough to offer a few interview tips – I guess she could sense I was a little nervous – or perhaps just apprehensive about the job. Regardless this is my first holo-call interview.

Garm’s Holo-call Interview Tips

  • Always start the holo-call interview on-time. Be there early.
  • Even though Holo-call technology blocks out backgrounds, anything close enough to you will probably still be visible.  It’s best to be a secluded room with no distractions
  • Holo-call interviews are harder than in being interviews, and there is greater chance for distraction
  • Try to act natural as if you were meeting in-being
  • It’s okay to look at notes occasionally, but avoid constantly looking away from the interviewer
  • There may be (and often are) more than 1 being in a holo-call interview. Be prepared for this.
  • Dress as if you were going to an in-being interview or meeting
  • The clarity of the holo-call depends on atmospheric conditions, in addition to the quality of the device sending and receiving the holo-call. It’s okay if you don’t have the best device for now, but if you intend on attending numerous holo-calls you should plan on upgrading
  • Act yourself, and be natural.

Also saw an advert on a Holo-cast about Empire jobs. I will check out the Empire job listings over the next couple of days. There is apparently a really big hiring push at the Empire through Empire Careers to work on major infrastructure and engineering projects. I’m a little surprised they didn’t recruit at school, as usually larger employers tend to post such high-profile jobs in and near the classrooms.
